Step onto the South East Queensland Gay Scene

South East Queensland may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of gay destinations, however the region does have its fair share of awesome gay venues. As Queensland’s capital, it’s no surprise that most of the gay scene is centered around Brisbane, although that doesn’t mean that you won’t find the occasional gay bar, club, or resort elsewhere. Here’s the lowdown on where the queens of South East Queensland are hanging out.

Brisbane gay clubs and bars

The Wickham

Located in Fortitude Valley, The Wickham Hotel is one of Brisbane’s most iconic venues, and has long been known as a supporter of LGBTQ+ community. The venue welcomes patrons of all sexualities and you’ll also find them hosting gay events here and there, including Big Gay Day.

Fluffy

Dubbed Brisbane’s campest night out, Fluffy is an institution on Australia’s gay club scene. Every Sunday night at Cloudland, some of the best drag queens of Brisbane come out to showcase their talents alongside world class DJs and performers. It’s an experience not to be missed by the camp community.

Beat Mega Club

As one of the largest and longest running gay clubs in Queensland, The Beat deserves a spot on every gay Brisbane itinerary. 7 bars + 5 nightclubs + 6 beer gardens = 50 shades of gay and 365 days of partying a year. With drag shows, DJs, dancing, and weekly events, what’s not to love?

Sex clubs

Club29

Whilst people who identify as males of all sexualities are welcomed, Club29 is proud to be Brisbane’s only gay owned and operated cruise club. Open seven days a week from midday-late, with daily events and theme nights like Pants Off Fridays and Strip Pool Sundays, plus cheeky amenities and extras, there is plenty of action to get you going Club29.

Wet

Don’t miss out on Brisbane’s only gay owned and operated men’s sauna. Wet is both a place for gay men to relax, and a place to get off. Jump into Brisbane’s only gay swimming pool, sweat it out in the sauna, or chill out in the steam room or spa. If you’re looking for something saucier, step into the private video lounge or the many cruising areas, including private rooms, glory holes, sling room, and maze area.

Gay events

Big Gay Day

A gay event like no other, Big Gay Day is the largest LGBTQ+ festival in Brisbane. An entire street is closed down for a rainbow street party including a main stage to host some of the hottest musicians and drag acts. Big Gay Day isn’t just a vibrant celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, it also raises funds for a number of vital charities.

Brisbane Pride Festival

Brisbane Pride is an annual celebration of LGBTQ+ people and their peers, designed to celebrate the human rights of people of all sexualities in a number of exciting events across four weeks. With club nights, fair days, art shows, and more, there’s something for everyone at Brisbane Pride.

Gay Sunshine Coast

Hideaway Noosa

Whilst the majority of South east Queensland’s gay activity is centered in Brisbane, if you sashay up the road to the Sunshine Coast you will find Hideaway Noosa, offering clothing-optional accommodation for gay and bisexual men. The perfect spot for a gay-cation!
